Powder snow from artificial cloud

An Austrian research team from the University of Agricultural Sciences and the Technical University of Vienna wants to produce powder using an artificial cloud. So far only in the laboratory -proven technology is now tested for the first time in Tyrol Obergurgl.


In a three and a half meters high , balloon-shaped chamber an artificial cloud to be generated by the injection of water drops. Because of the low temperature in the chamber , ideally colder than minus five degrees Celsius , cool the droplets from without freezing even nuclei are in the resulting fog then introduced , which act like magnets to form larger crystals that then as snow from.
